Robin Hill Public School: Modern Expansion and Storm Shelter Design by Principle Design
Robin Hill Public School, a growing K-8 school in Norman, Oklahoma, has partnered with Principle Design to address critical infrastructure needs as enrollment continues to rise. The school board and administration prioritized providing adequate storm shelter space for the entire student population, alongside resolving a shortage of functional restroom facilities. Historically, the school has added portable classrooms to manage growing enrollment, but with the property now landlocked, a more permanent solution was required.
Principle Design, a leading Oklahoma architecture firm, developed a comprehensive plan through detailed campus planning. This plan included the relocation of portable classrooms to make space for a new building addition. The solution involves a 6,000-square-foot building addition, featuring four new classrooms that are ICC-500 compliant storm shelters. The project also includes the construction of modern, accessible restrooms designed to accommodate the entire campus, addressing a significant need for functional restroom facilities.
Additionally, the school lacked a proper teacher’s workroom, which was also integrated into the design. The new school addition will provide a centralized, functional space to enhance both student and staff experiences.
